fades like a photograph.

i'm going to an art showing at the bowery hotel this weekend, titled "an instance of vibration." i'm very excited as i've been researching many galleries lately. my sister and i are on the lookout for fabulous pieces, so please feel free to send me artists, galleries, links, etc. yellowkorner is one i stumbled upon that features some of the greatest photographers from all over the world. their concept is to publish many prints of the artwork so that collectors all over can access the pieces.

a picture in a frame.

all that's left of us
is a picture sitting in a frame
-ben harper

a picture is worth a thousand words. well what about a few pictures on a wall. what kind of story is that telling?

i love when similar objects are grouped together. that way you get lots of smaller stories that create a bigger picture. one way to achieve this is by hanging a collection of framed art on a wall, or even hanging empty frames on a wall. warning: this must be done right. the uniformity and repetition is key to success with an installation like this. the space between each frame should be similar in width so they each share a similar border that the wall creates.

cool shit you can buy.

coolshityoucanbuy.com  has... well... cool shit you can buy. sounds simple, right. these products are witty and genius, with equal parts of humor and functionality (and don't forget a sprinkling of straight up moronic). but they make me laugh and would make great gifts (for the right person).

music [video] monday.

i love music. it kicks off my morning and lays me to bed at night, while carrying me through the day. nothing triggers an emotion in me more than a simple tune.

call it a cult following, if you will. i can't get enough of the manhattan based band, cults. currently opening for foster the people, the hipster duo have gotten great reviews. their music is a little infectious.

there's a special place in my heart for red hot chili peppers. i think it's the same place where my california memories live. the video for the adventures of rain dance maggie makes me smile. oh venice boardwalk, here's to your rad existence.

a little singer/ songwriter tune for you, here's an oldie from rise against.

this next guy is not paul rudd's brother, although he sounds a lot like paul simon. i especially like the comment by casseygebban... "he's a magical australian gnome with fucking glorious songs." i couldn't have said it better.

real simple.

anthony hockney once said, "anything simple always interests me."

leonardo davinci once said, "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."

hans hoffman once said, "the ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak."

peri schechter once said, "i couldn't agree more."

as i've said before, i am an apple fanatic. it's hard not to be when there's a company who just happens to get it right every time. through their technology, their user friendly approach, their designs, their advertisements, their schedule of product release, their audience, their way to all things creative, and to their simplistic style. their advertisements always embody their company's take on art & design... SIMPLE.

i'm a child of the 80's so i've always had an affinity for neons. blame it on my countless converse.

however, bright BRIGHT colors or neons are often hard to do right in an interior space. it's better to add just a taste of it because it's sure to grab your attention without even trying. here are a few bolder neon moves that i just love. think smaller scale furniture, patterns, and single walls. but i can't promise that you won't get sick of it in a few years.
