all work. no play.

she works hard for the money
-donna summer

i've been working hard lately. so what better thing to write about than where we all work-- the office. a sexy office starts with a fantastic desk. as i compile designs for an office presentation i'm doing, here's a few of the more funky desks i've been seeing.

i love this chair. very strong and powerful.

london town.

who the hottest in the world right now
just touched down in london town
-estelle

i've been an admirer of designer abigail ahern ever since i started brainstorming a concept for my apartment in manhattan. there's something about abigail's style that is uniquely her own (and one that i'd like to share). her looks are glamourous, yet bohemian at the same time. their whimsical yet grounded. and pretty much, just all around fabulous. at least that's my take on it. click HERE for her website. her resume is lengthy-- interior designer, London store owner,  product designer and developer, creative director, and brand developer. her career is definitely one i'd like to emulate, wearing many different hats.

just another manic monday.

have to catch an early train, got to be to work by nine
and if i had an aero-plane i still couldn't make it on time
cause it takes me so long just to figure out what i'm gonna where
blame it on the train but the boss is already there
-bangles

it's music monday. well, at least today we're gonna call it that. but before sharing some of my new favorite videos & songs with you, doesn't this photo just make you smile.

paperback writer.

dear sir or madam, will you read my book?
it took me years to write, will you take a look?
it's based on a novel by a man named Lear
and I need a job so I want to be a paperback writer
-the beatles

e-books are taking over and i don't like it. i don't think i'll ever succumb to a kindle or a digital reader of any sort. there's just something special about the pages of a book, going from cover to cover. gently folding over the corner of the page. seeing how much you just read in one sitting and having that reflect how good that book really is. no glare. no fingerprints. just paper.

and after you've finished a book, you can put it on your bookshelf as a way of saying to the world, "i read this book." books say a lot about a person. i mainly read biographies by entertainers, or behind the scenes reads on pop culture (with an occasional twilight thrown in there). today i'm picking up "lies that chelsea handler told me" to add to my endless chelsea handler collection. but first, let me blog about some fun and interesting bookshleves and bookcases.

april showers bring may flowers?

now i will stand in the rain on the corner
i'll watch the people go shuffling downtown
another ten minutes no longer
and then i'm turning around
-led zeppelin (or my favorite cover by o.a.r.)

april showers bring may flowers, right? so why does the weather forecast look like this?

as much as i like wearing my rain boots, i'd be more than happy to put them away for a few months. but since it looks like they'll be hanging out in my foyer for a while, i thought i'd post some great mud rooms. for those of you who don't know what a mud room or mudroom is, it's a room in your house that transitions you and you're gear from outdoors to indoors. generally, they have tiled or concrete floors, as well as racks and cubbies for clothes, bags, shoes, and umbrellas.

i like the shelves for glasses

i like the color palette in this room, as well as the numbers on the bench

the ladder is useful for the storage areas above
