like a rolling stone.

like a rolling stone
-bob dylan

happy 44th anniversary rolling stone magazine. thank you for bringing the music culture into our homes, in the form of an odd shaped, extra long glossy paperback (bring back the old size & layout). originally known for its hippie counterculture accounts and political coverage by controversial journalist hunter s. thompson, rolling stone has gone through many formats. in the very first edition, published on november 9, 1967, jane wenner (who is still editor and publisher) said rolling stone "is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces."

i'm never gonna leave this bed.

i'm never gonna leave this bed
-maroon 5

just 4 the home is currently featuring the diamond tufted headboard in a gray velvet with bronze nailheads. and somehow it satisfies all styles, from classic to contemporary to romantic to vintage. the tufted headboard works well because it achieves so many looks. note that diamond tufting is less contemporary than square tufting so keep that in mind when designing your boudoir. but putting that aside, a bright color or a pattern will guarantee a chic centerpiece for your room. you'll never want to leave your bed.

just like a wavin' flag.

when i get older i will be stronger
they'll call me freedom, just like a wavin' flag
-k'naan

let your freak flag fly. or in this case, let your food flag fly.

last year, the sydney international food festival created a fantastic concept to promote their event. natalie boog came up with these series of flags, only comprised by the iconic food of its native land. very well thought out and even better executed.

obsessed.

every now and again i hear a song that is so incredibly infectious that i become stalker-like obsessed. usually it's a song i hear on fuv radio station (90.7) or in a random store or on a party playlist. i would never have thought that i would find my latest obsession on the real world: san diego. yes, i still watch the real world. no, i don't still wish i could be on it. yes, that last statement was a lie.

i've always had an admiration for the real world, the tv show. i think the concept is genius. "let's put a group of young strangers together in a house and tape their lives. but to make matters more interesting, because this is a social 'experiment', let's make one gay, one homophobic, one a lesbian who relates more to males than females, one a victim of domestic abuse, one a frat guy who's more than meets the eye, one an aspiring entertainer"... and you know why they cast it this way.... well, because that's the real world. i've always enjoyed people and culture (i was an anthropology minor) and i think it dates back to my first viewing of the real world.

ok back to the matter at hand. this season takes place in san diego. we've been introduced to alexandra govere, an extremely talented musician. check out the song below-- beggar by alexandra govere and the hats.

the peacock is a thing of beauty. with velvet shades of blue, green, and purple, the peacock has been highly regarded throughout religious and cultural histories. in hinduism, it's associate with benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and knowledge. in greco-roman mythology, the peacock's feathers were placed with hundreds of eyes, symbolizing the vault of heaven and the eyes of the stars. in christianity, the bird is an ancient symbol of eternal life. i just think peacocks are unusual and simply striking. so why not incorporate that into your home.
